Your Information The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act of 2002 and Texas state law protects the rights of homeless children and youth to receive a free and appropriate public education. It is the intent of the law that a student’s residential status should have no bearing on eligibility to participate in a specific program. Students experiencing homelessness should be able to participate in programs as any other student would, as long as eligibility requirements for all students are met. Any students meeting the eligibility requirements should be eligible for, but are not limited to, the following types of programs and services: Tutoring programs Counseling services to help students and their families with school-related problems, family issues, and locating community services Pregnancy-related services Other health-related services In order to insure that all students receive needed services, it is necessary to obtain residency information for each student enrolled in Grape Creek / Miles ISD. Three Rivers Special Population Co-op is the liaison for students in homeless situations. If you have any questions, please contact Three Rivers Co-op at 325-655-6768 Extension 10.
